AB App Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the AB App service (“AB App”) offered by AB Labs, Inc. (“AB Labs”), except where otherwise noted. The AB App is for use by individuals and organizations who make and administer surveys on the AB App (“Makers”) and individuals seeking to take surveys on the AB App ("Takers"). The following sections explain how AB Labs acquires, uses, and shares the personal data you provide and your choices regarding how your personal data is accessed, used, and changed.
The following sections of this Privacy Policy provide specific details for Makers and for Takers, respectively.
Privacy for Makers
Making and administering an AB App survey requires us to collect some information about you. Below is a summary of the information we collect, how we use it, and what options you have for managing it.
What information we collect:
Account information: To use the AB App you must first sign up for an account using your email address and a password of your choosing.
Billing information: To use certain features of the AB App you must provide payment, which requires you to provide your financial information for form of payment (e.g., credit card number, expiration date, name on card, and billing address)
Usage Data: When you use or interact with the AB App, we collect usage data such as what features of the app you use, how frequently you use them and when. We may also collect log data such as Internet service provider, operating system, trend data, and data needed to ensure the AB App functions properly.
Device Data: We receive data from the device you use to access the AB App, such as your phone model, phone operating system version, and IP address, which may be used to approximate your geographic location (for example, in what state you reside).
Survey Data: The text, images, questions, and options you use to make your survey, as well as the responses from Takers, are stored by us for you. We may also occasionally create and administer surveys to you and other Makers.
How we use your information:
Your information enables us to provide AB App services and improve those services. Most commonly this entails us conducting statistical analyses on de-identified, aggregated data. For example, we may analyze your and other Makers’ usage data to identify the most common days and times that Makers create and launch their surveys to help us allocate AB Labs staff time for customer support. As another example, we may analyze average Taker completion rates across certain types of survey content that you create (e.g., images vs. text) to understand how to optimize the Taker experience. AB Labs may also use machine learning or similar techniques on Takers’ responses to your surveys to optimize the quality of future response data and adherence to our Terms of Use.
We may also occasionally send you emails to the email address you provide us. For example, we may send you promotional emails, transactional notices, or announcements related to the AB App service.
We will not share your data with other third parties except when (a) we have provided you notice, including in this privacy policy, (b) we have obtained your consent, including via your account's opt-in/opt-out settings, (c) we have anonymized the information, so that you cannot reasonably be identified by it, (d) we have provided a Taker access to their survey response data upon request, (e) AB Labs is party to a change in ownership or structure, such as a merger or acquisition, (f) required by law.
How you can control your information:
You may delete your AB App surveys and response data via the in-app deletion function.
You may unsubscribe from promotional emails via the unsubscribe link contained within those emails, or within the AB App.
You may have other rights depending on state or local laws that apply to you.
Privacy for Takers
The AB App connects survey Makers with survey Takers to facilitate the collection, analysis, and reporting of insights from data. This requires us to collect some information about you. Below is a summary of the information we collect, how we use it, and what options you have for managing it.
Information we obtain from you:
Account information: To use the AB App you must first sign up for an account using your email address and a password of your choosing.
Profile information: Makers may want to limit their surveys to only certain types of Takers, or analyze differences in survey results across certain types of Takers. To enable this feature and broaden your access to such surveys, we collect demographic data and data about your opinions, interests, attitudes, personality, values, and lifestyle through AB App surveys created and administered by us. For example, we may ask you about your demographic data such as age, gender, income, education, and political beliefs, personality traits like how extroverted or creative you consider yourself to be, and lifestyle choices like how often you use social media. Some of this data may be considered sensitive data. You always have the right to refuse to respond to any survey questions, though this may limit the surveys available to you.
Survey Data: When you take a survey from a Maker we obtain, store, and analyze your responses.
Bank information: To receive payment for taking surveys on the AB App you must provide your bank information, such as routing and account number, or third-party payment processing information (e.g., PayPal).
How we use your information:
Generally, we use your information in connection with providing AB App services to you and to Makers.
We use your account information to enable you to use the AB App and contact you regarding relevant AB Labs business. For example, we may occasionally send you transactional notices, promotional emails, or announcements related to the AB App service to the email address you provide us.
We use your profile information to broaden your access to surveys, to enable Makers to administer their surveys to Takers with certain characteristics, and to enable Makers to analyze differences in their survey results across Takers with certain characteristics. As an example, a Maker may want to survey only people under the age of 50, so providing your age as part of your profile may make you eligible for that survey if you are under 50. That same Maker may also want to statistically test for differences in responses between men and women, which may only be possible if a sufficient number of Takers have their gender included in their profiles. We do NOT share your contact information with Makers as part of this process.
Your usage, device, and survey data enable us to provide AB App services and improve those services. Most commonly this entails us conducting statistical analyses on de-identified, aggregated data. For example, we may analyze your and other Takers’ usage data to identify the most common days and times that Takers respond to surveys, which helps Makers know when to launch their surveys and helps us allocate AB Labs staff time for user support. As another example, we may analyze average Taker completion rates across certain types of survey content that you create (e.g., images vs. text) to understand how to optimize the Taker and Maker experience. AB Labs may also use machine learning or similar techniques on your and other Takers’ responses to improve the quality of survey data and monitor adherence to our Terms of Use.
Survey responses that you provide to Makers are shared with those Makers. We may also disclose your age and gender to Makers as part of their survey results, however we do NOT include your email address or other contact information as part of this disclosure. In addition, Makers may limit their surveys to Takers with certain profile characteristics, which implies that Takers responding to those surveys have those characteristics. Makers may also be able to see approximately how many Takers in the AB App population of survey Takers have those characteristics, as this may help them decide whether or not to limit their survey to only those Takers with those characteristics.
It may also be necessary to share your personal information with service providers who help maintain or improve AB App services. For example, we may share your information with third-party payment providers to facilitate your financial transactions on the AB App.
We also compile statistics using de-identified aggregated data from Takers to help Makers understand the characteristics of our survey Taker population. These statistics include facts like the average age of the AB App Taker population or ratio of men to women. We typically publish these statistics on our website, in promotional materials, and related channels.
We will not share your data with other third parties except when (a) we have provided you notice, including in this privacy policy, (b) we have obtained your consent, including via your account's opt-in/opt-out settings, (c) we have anonymized the information, so that you cannot reasonably be identified by it, (e) AB Labs is party to a change in ownership or structure, such as a merger or acquisition, or (f) required by law.
How you can control your information:
To further protect your privacy and the confidentiality of your data, you have several other options.
You can always refuse to answer a survey question, though refusing to answer certain profile questions or Makers’ surveys may limit your ability to take surveys on the AB App. Taking surveys on the AB App is always voluntary and you can stop at any time.
You can edit your account and profile information through AB App’s account settings or by contacting us at [email protected].
You can contact a Maker of a survey you have responded to through the AB App [feature] and request deletion of your data for that survey. The Maker can then delete that data in the AB App and in other mediums in which they have stored the data.
You can delete you AB Account, including your account information and profile information, using the in-app Delete My Account feature or by contacting us at [email protected]. We will process your request within a reasonable amount of time. This will not delete survey response data that you provided to Makers; to do so, you must contact the Makers directly.
We may maintain the data that you have provided to AB Labs and Makers while your account is active, or when necessary for legal purposes (e.g., contract enforcement, dispute resolution, or requirements by federal, state, or local law) or service purposes for you.
You may have other rights depending on federal, state, or local laws that apply to you.
Rewards for taking surveys:
AB Labs may offer financial or nonfinancial incentives for participating in AB App surveys. These incentives require you to respond to surveys using your AB App account. More details about these rewards and how to obtain them are provided in our rewards offers and notices. We may add or discontinue certain reward programs at any time. As always, your participation in AB App surveys is voluntary and you may stop at any time.
Additional Considerations
Where your information is processed and stored: Your personal data may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country where AB Labs or its service providers maintain facilities. We currently maintain offices in the United States.
Data security: We take the security of your data seriously, and use standard industry practices to protect your data during collection, use, and storage.
Updates to this privacy policy: We may modify this privacy policy from time to time, at any time. We will notify you via email or within the AB App when such modifications take place, along with when these modifications take effect. We will post the new privacy policy in the AB App.
Children under 18: AB App services are for adults 18 years of age or older. No minors under the age of 18 are allowed to create an AB App account or use the app.
